IT system firms agree to share

IT systems in GP practices are to become better able to share information after leading GP systems suppliers EMIS and INPS signed an agreement to work together.
A third IT systems supplier, CSE Healthcare, will also collaborate. The service providers suggest the move will support the sharing of clinical data across GP practices and community services, as well as enable integrated workflows and care pathways.
The agreement will see the integration of the EMIS system, INPS Vision system and CSE's RiO Community Care Record System.
The providers suggest users of the EMIS, INPS and RiO systems will be able to use a cross-organisational appointment booking facility, which they say will 'ensure a more seamless and cost-effective patient journey'.
Ewan Davies, independent healthcare IT consultant and GPC/RCGP joint IT committee member, said this was 'very encouraging' and suggested the move 'foreshadows the way things are likely to develop in the future'.
