Patients urge PM to act on free scrips

Patients with long-term conditions have taken part in a simultaneous phone call to urge Gordon Brown to abolish prescription charges for people in England with long-term conditions.
At 11am on Monday 1 February the patients, pictured, simultaneously telephoned 10 Downing Street to call on the prime minister to act.
Gordon Brown promised to deliver free scrips for people with long-term conditions at Labour's conference in September 2008.
In December, Healthcare Republic exclusively revealed concerns that plans to scrap prescription charges in England for patients with long-term conditions may fall by the wayside in the build-up to the general election.
Prescriptions are already free in Wales and charges are set to be abolished in Scotland and Northern Ireland.
