BMA targets sessional GPs with pay survey
By Neil Durham, 02 February 2010
Sessional GPs are invited to take part in a confidential BMA survey, the results of which will be used as evidence to the Doctors and Dentists Review Body (DDRB).
Dr Vicky Weeks: The BMA wants to accurately represent sessional GPs based on the information from the pay survey
A letter has been sent to sessional GPs signed by Dr Vicky Weeks, chairman of the BMA's sessional GP subcommittee and co-chairman of the BMA's sessional GP representational working group, and fellow co-chairman Dr Rob Barnett.
It says: ‘The BMA's GPC has set up a sessional GP representation working group to review the arrangements for the representation of sessional (salaried and locum) GPs within the GPC and BMA, and at a local level.
‘Sessional GPs are growing in number. It is important that their voice is heard and that the issues they face are at the forefront of the profession's mind.
‘As part of its review, the working group has put together a survey that will be sent to sessional GPs who are members of the BMA in the week commencing 1 February. It will be vital in informing the working group and helping it make recommendations on how sessional GPs will be represented at a national and local level. The results of the survey will also be used as part of next year's evidence to the Review Body on the remuneration and working patterns of sessional GPs.'
Sessional GPs who have not received the survey by the end of February should email the BMA's research department.
