RCGP pilots computer program to support GPs through revalidation
By Susie Sell, 14 January 2010
A computer program aimed at supporting GPs to meet the requirements for revalidation is being piloted by the RCGP.
Professor Field said the ePortfolio had great potential in supporting GPs for revalidation
The RCGP says the ePortfolio will be centred on a learning log, which will allow GPs to keep track of their progress towards revalidation before their annual appraisals and the five-yearly revalidation submission.
The ePortfolio will also provide a facility to record and claim credits earned through the college's Continuing Professional Development credit scheme, the RCGP says.
The RCGP hopes the tool will be available this year, and says it will be free to RCGP members, although non-members will also be able to the purchase the product.
RCGP Chairman, Professor Steve Field, said: 'This will be the definitive tool for GPs to use to support them in meeting the requirements of revalidation.
'It is being designed specifically for GPs and their many and varied roles - frontline GPs are trialling the revalidation ePortfolio so that we can be sure it meets the needs of all GPs, regardless of their individual working circumstances.'
