GPC seeks changes to learning credits for revalidation
By Neil Durham, 18 December 2009
The GPC is calling for two changes to the RCGP's proposed credits system for continuing professional development (CPD) as part of revalidation.
The GPC wants flexibility in the learning credits system for revalidation
GPC chairman Dr Laurence Buckman said: 'We want to make the scheme as flexible as possible, so whatever learning you do counts towards credits. The college is supportive of that and that will happen.'
The other change is a proposed concession to help sessional GPs. The committee wants locum GPs to be accredited even if they work between practices, making it harder to measure how their practise has changed as a result of what they have learned.
Dr Buckman added: 'What happens if you are a travelling locum and never primarily in one place? How can you tell that learning has made a difference to your behaviour? You can't monitor behaviour and prove what you've done if you don't go back to the same place again.
'I believe we can make it fair and the college representatives were supportive.'
