NICE launches commissioning guidance for PCTs
By Sanjay Tanday, 04 December 2009
NICE has launched a guide to help PCTs commission high quality services, following concerns that PCTs are struggling to successfully implement NICE recommendations.
The guide is designed to support commissioners in developing systems and processes that embed NICE guidance into commissioning, and to signpost sources of further information and practical help.
It can be used to develop long-term plans and strategies for commissioning that are evidence-based, and can also be used to support day-to-day commissioning.
Val Moore, implementation director at NICE said: ‘This guide will help commissioners across England to provide the best healthcare services that meet the needs of their local populations.
‘In such financially challenging times for the NHS, this guide will be important in helping commissioners deliver the best with their limited resources.’
Gary Belfield, acting director general for commissioning and system management at the DoH, added: ‘It’s a must read for all those involved in commissioning services across health and social care, and will also prove a really valuable resource for board members.'
