One in 10 patients in swine flu priority groups have been vaccinated, says DoH

By Sanjay Tanday, 27 November 2009

One million patients in the priority groups have been vaccinated against swine flu, according to the DoH director for immunisation.

Speaking at a briefing in London on Thursday, Professor David Salisbury said he would have liked to have seen more patients vaccinated but acknowledged that GPs were not all receiving the vaccine at the same time.

‘GPs now need to go full throttle to get as many patients in the priority groups vaccinated before Christmas, so that they could move on to vaccinating the under-fives,' he said.

A total of 14 million doses of the GSK vaccine and 2.3 million doses of the Baxter vaccine have so far been delivered to the UK. In England, 8 million of these doses have been sent out to GP practices, PCTs and acute trusts.
