Five-figure remediation costs will force GPs to quit, GPC warns
By Tom Ireland, 20 November 2009
The GPC has warned of plans to make GPs pay for their own remediation where problems are identified by revalidation.
GPC chairman Dr Laurence Buckman: How many GPs require remediation depends on how big revalidation is
Some deaneries are proposing that GPs pay part or all of their remediation expenses, which the GPC warns could run into five figures and pursuade some to leave the profession.
‘How many GPs require remediation depends on how big revalidation is,' said GPC chairman Dr Laurence Buckman.
‘The proposals by some deaneries are that the person being remediated should partly or fully pay the cost.'
Dr Buckman added that having been trained by the state, struggling doctors must be ‘supported by the state.'
In August, GP revealed that the DoH would not be funding the costs associated with revalidation.
