Nursing social enterprises shortlisted for award
By Neil Durham, 17 November 2009
Two nursing social enterprises have been shortlisted for best new social enterprise in the Social Enterprise Awards.
Lance Gardener: Social Enterprise Awards candidates highlight how difficult it is for vulnerable people to secure care from mainstream services.
The first is North East Lincolnshire Care Trust Plus' (CTP) Open Door service. It offers drop-in facilities to homeless people and those not registered with a GP around the East Marsh area.
Lance Gardner, director of care at CTP, said: 'This is the result of an enormous amount of hard work by the fantastic team and, more importantly, continues to highlight how difficult it is for vulnerable people to secure care from mainstream services.'
The nurse-led medical service has helped to increase GP registrations from 320 to 930.
The other was Central Surrey Health, which provides nursing and therapy services to a population of around 280,000. It was one of the first social enterprises of its kind to emerge from the NHS, is co-owned by its staff and is focused on streamlining services to improve the experience for its users.
The awards, run by the Social Enterprise Coalition, will be announced Thursday. The UK prizes will be announced 3 December.
