DoH says nurses' pay deal should remain same

UK health departments will not seek to change nurses' three-year pay deal, according to evidence submitted to the NHS Pay Review Body (NHSPRB).
As part of the deal, healthcare workers received a 2.75% rise in 2008/9, a further 2.54% this year (2009/10) and are due another 2.5% increase in the final year, 2010/11.
The English, Welsh and Northern Irish governments' combined evidence to the NHSPRB states that they ‘do not favour reviewing the agreed award for the NHS Agenda for Change workforce in 2010/11'.
Inflation was estimated to be 1.6% in August 2009 and the evidence predicts it will remain low throughout 2010/11.
Earlier this year, unions threatened to pull out of the deal if inflation rose significantly and it wasn't renegotiated.
Since the economic crisis worsened, unions have relaxed their calls for further rises.
