Two-thirds of girls receive HPV jab

More than two-thirds of eligible girls received all three doses of the HPV vaccine in 2008/9, NHS Information Centre data show.
Among 12- to 13-year-old girls eligible for the vaccine, 70 per cent received all three doses and 87 per cent one dose.
But MMR vaccination rates remain below mid-1990s levels. Around 85 per cent of children reaching their second birthday received MMR jabs.
The proportion of over-65s immunised against seasonal flu was 74 per cent, maintaining the level of recent years.
Uptake of vaccines against diphtheria, tetanus, polio, per-tussis, haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib) and meningitis C (MenC) remained stable at around 92-94 per cent.
However, BCG vaccines for at-risk patients increased by 10 per cent in 2008/9.
