Buckman slams 'worst ever' Daily Mail article
07 August 2009
GPC chairman Dr Laurence Buckman has claimed Tuesday's Daily Mail article on GP pay was 'the worst example of a deliberate distortion of the truth I have yet come across', in a letter to the newspaper.

The front page article claimed GPs were earning up to £380,000, despite acknowledging ‘in some cases figures include cash GPs have to pay out for staff salaries and rents'.
In a letter for publication in the newspaper, Dr Buckman cites Inland Revenue figures that show expenses account for 45% of practice income on average.
The letter defends GPs against regular Daily Mail claims that GPs are overpaid, do not work out of hours and do not do home visits.
Dr Buckman has also written a private letter of complaint to the newspaper's editor, Paul Dacre. The PCC is investigating the article, having received seven or eights complaints as of yesterday.
