NHS Choices publishes hospital death rates
07 May 2009
Website NHS Choices is now publishing hospital standardised mortality ratios (HSMRs) or death rates.
The HSMRs, which show the observed deaths versus the expected number of deaths in each NHS trust, are supplied to NHS Choices by the Dr Foster Unit at Imperial College, London.
Tom Moloney, chief executive officer of Dr Foster Intelligence, said: ‘The Dr Foster Unit established HSMRs in 2001 in response to the Bristol enquiry. Dr Foster will continue to drive forward the information revolution in the NHS.’
