GPs must fight to protect QOF from political meddling and keep it evidence-based, according to the leader of Scotland's GPs.

Speaking to the Scottish LMCs conference in Clydebank today Scottish GPC chairman Dr Dean Marshall accused government of relying on politically driven targets when it should be focussing on clinically driven ones.
He said: ‘One of the great successes of the GP contract is the QOF. It is reducing acute hospital admissions and ultimately saving lives. It is envied throughout the world but here, our politicians are so used to failure they don’t recognise success.
‘The UK government is currently consulting on the future of the QOF in England and this will have consequences for Scotland. We need to fight to protect QOF from political meddling and from those who seek to promote their own political interests. We need to keep the QOF public, transparent, clinically focussed and most of all evidence based.’
