GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) has received European approval for orlistat 60mg to be available as a pharmacy-only medicine. The drug will be available in the coming months, marketed as Alli.
It will be licensed for treatment of adults with a BMI over 28 who are on a reduced calorie, low-fat diet.
Pharmacy staff will be trained to provide appropriate advice to customers wanting to buy the product, GSK said.
