Senior nurses must limit skill mix

Senior nurses must act as 'gatekeepers' to prevent plans to increase skill mix in nursing teams from undermining quality and patient safety, nurse leaders have warned.

He warned that in some areas support staff had been brought into healthcare teams with ‘little or no training'.
‘That besmirches the name of nursing,' he said.
Dr Carter said there was a tension for nurses in management roles or those working on the boards of PCTs and other NHS organisations between helping to cut deficits and maintaining adequate staffing levels.
