More help for practices to encourage patients to self care
By Neil Durham, 20 August 2007
The need for general practice to focus on helping and empowering patients to become more aware of self care has never been greater, according to the NHS Working in Partnership Programme (WiPP).
WiPP was launched in 2004 under the new GMS contract to support general practice with capacity-building resources and strategies.
It says 39 per cent of GP time is spent dealing with patients suffering from self-treatable minor ailments.
A wide range of materials designed to help practices develop and implement a self-care blueprint that will make a real difference to their patients is available at www.wipp.nhs.uk
