PBC 'simulator' to help teach GPs
26 June 2009
A private healthcare firm has developed a practice-based commissioning 'simulator' with the backing of the NHS Alliance, to help GPs learn how to commission services.
The tool, designed with the 'skill sets and experience of GPs and practice managers in mind' aims to help would-be commissioners learn through role play and computer simulation of commissioning scenarios they would be likely to encounter in the real world.
NHS Alliance chairman Dr Michael Dixon said: 'The onus is increasingly on GPs and practice managers to commission services in an intelligent way to ensure they meet the health needs of their patients. By using the resources available to them wisely, GPs can empower their patients.'
The tool was developed by healthcare firm Humana Europe.
