David Cameron to extend 'friends and family test' to GPs soon

Prime minister David Cameron has called for 'friends and family' patient satisfaction tests to be rolled out to GP practices as soon as possible.

The tests ask patients whether they would recommend services ‘to a loved one’, and will be rolled out to hospitals across England from April 2013.
Mr Cameron announced today that he wants the measure extended to GP practices, community hospitals and district nursing services as a matter of urgency.
The plans build on a statement a year ago from the prime minister, in which he warned that the approach to caring in England’s NHS ‘needed to be reset’.
Announcing plans to extend the scheme today, Mr Cameron said: ‘So from April, we will introduce a friends and family test and patient led inspections across all hospitals.
‘The test is a simple measure but crucially will show whether there is a basic standard of dignity, cleanliness and respect. And I want the NHS to go further, with GP surgeries, district nursing and community hospitals using the test to improve the care they provide as soon as possible.’
