DH reveals details of CCG share of NHS funding
By Nick Bostock, 07 February 2012
The DH has published details of how NHS funding currently managed by PCTs will be split between clinical commissioning groups (CCGs) and the NHS Commissioning Board (NCB).
Mr Lansley: ‘We want to get the best value out of every penny spent in the NHS and our modernisation plans will help to cut waste.'
Around £65bn of the £88bn funding PCTs currently receive will be controlled by CCGs, and £21bn by the NCB.
Information published by the DH also shows that public health funding will total at least £5.2bn in 2012/13, with around £2.2bn directly controlled by local authorities.
The figures are based on 2010/11 PCT spending, updated to reflect 2012/13 NHS funding. The data have been mapped onto the new NHS structures.
Health secretary Andrew Lansley said the data would provide CCGs with a basis for planning services they would commission.
‘There is more work to do, but these estimates mean that CCGs and local authorities can begin planning how to deliver the frontline services that matter the most.
‘We want to get the best value out of every penny spent in the NHS and our modernisation plans will help to cut waste, reduce bureaucracy and simplify NHS structures so that the money invested will improve frontline care for patients.’
