NHS launches 'vital' CKD toolkit for GPs
By Tom Moberly, 02 February 2012
Toolkits to help GPs diagnose and manage chronic kidney disease (CKD) in the community have been launched by NHS Kidney Care.
The resource packs contain summaries of NICE guidance and wall charts setting out simple tests that can be done to diagnose CKD.
An online version of the pack can be downloaded from the NHS Kidney Care website.
Shieffield GP Dr Michael Gordon said the toolkits would be important, given the way CKD has become more widely treated in primary care over the past 10 years.
‘This has led to a dramatic improvement in the early identification of CKD, which has seen more people than ever being offered treatment to reduce their risk of cardiovascular complications and progression to end stage renal failure.
‘However, there is still variation amongst GP practices in the identification and management of CKD. This pack will prove to be a vital tool in helping ensure all primary care practitioners are able to offer a high quality service to patients with CKD.’
