Just a third of DH staff recommend it as 'great place to work'
By Nick Bostock, 24 January 2012
Only a third of DH employees believe the department is well managed, a poll of more than 1,000 staff has found.
Just 28% said that the departmental board had a clear vision for the future of the DH, and only 12% agreed that ‘when changes are made in the department they are usually for the better’.
The poll found that only 35% of DH staff would recommend it as a ‘great place to work’ and fewer than half (47%) are proud to work there.
Overall, just 33% of staff at the DH ‘have confidence in the decisions made by the department’s senior civil servants’.
A total of 20% of DH staff said they wanted to quit as soon as possible, or in the next 12 months. However, 71% said their work gave them ‘ a sense of personal acheivement’ and 78% felt positive about the team they worked in.
A DH spokeswoman said: 'Staff satisfaction has remained broadly level in a year of change. Areas of improvement included how interested and challenged staff were in their jobs. We will be taking action based on the survey findings and hope to make improvements this year.'
