#weekinreview - 15 December

By Neil Durham, 15 December 2011

A glance back over this week's primary care news, opinion, top tweets and best gaffes.

#News

There was no edition of GP magazine this week but GPonline.com will be packed with news this week and next. On Monday we revealed successful clinical commissioning groups (CCGs) may be barred from distributing bonus quality premium payments among member practices.

#Twitter

Shadow health minister Liz Kendall (@leicesterliz) tweeted:

In it RCGP chairwoman Dr Clare Gerada (@clarerecgp) writes: ‘For me – the future is social media. We mustn’t be frightened of it. We must not stifle it before it begins – with over demanding rules and protocols and guidelines. We must rely on professionalism What we must do is ensure that we make it safe – but we must learn the power of this new communication technology’

#weekinreview couldn't have put it better.

National Association of Sessional GPs chief executive Dr Richard Fieldhouse (@rafieldhouse) may have stumbled upon a BMA panto-related scoop:  http://pic.twitter.com/pLZNJDo6'

#weekinreview says; ‘Oh no it isn’t!’

Thanks @BMJ_Group for an image of BMA chairman Dr Hamish Meldrum #weekinreview will spend a fair portion of the Christmas season trying to dislodge from its memory: http://twitpic.com/photos/BMJ_Group

Dr Ben Molyneux (@DrBenMolyneux), deputy chairman of the BMA’s junior doctors committee, was doing his bit to spread a little Christmas joy.

He tweeted:

Dr Tom Dolphin, chairman of the BMA’s UK junior doctors’ committee (@thomasdolphin), was finding inspiration from exhaustion.

He tweeted:

#Blogs

BMA Council and GPC member, as well as Lancashire GP, Dr David Wrigley (@DavidGWrigley) blogs about how interlinked politicians and the commercial sector are.

It is fascinating to see on this document here just how interlinked politicians are with the commercial sector. Once leaving office politicians accept directorships with the very same companies they worked with or offered contracts to when they were Ministers.'

John Wilderspin, the DH’s (@JohnWilderspin) national director of health and wellbeing board implementation in England, blogs for the first time about Health Bill ramifications.

He blogs: ‘When I came into my current role, my biggest worry was that the leaders of clinical commissioning groups (CCGs) might get left behind in the local development process, simply because of the number of things they have on their plate. I’ve been impressed by the way that many local government leaders have understood that, and gone out of their way to make it easier for clinical leaders to engage.’

#Prezzasingingwatch

#weekinreview has decided what tops its Christmas wish list.

17,428 signatures (correct at time of going to press) for Dr Kailash Chand’s (@kailashchandOBE) attempt to derail the Health Bill which will trigger a song from former deputy prime minister John Prescott (@johnprescott) should it reach 50,000.
