GP develops COPD book for patients

COPD patients in part of south London can carry diagnosis, medication and treatment plans in a wallet-sized booklet developed by a local GP.
Dr Merchant launched his 'green book' on World COPD Day last month.
Patients in Croydon have poor COPD outcomes and the area is among the bottom 10% in England in terms of spending on COPD care.
Dr Arshad Merchant, who has a special interest in COPD, launched his 'green book' at an event for patients, GPs, nurses and patients on World COPD Day last month.
The COPD green book is a foldable A5 booklet containing patient details and information about diagnosis, medication and management action plans.
Dr Merchant said many COPD patients had been diagnosed 10 or 20 years ago, but did not know the names of medicines they were taking.
The green book allows patients to carry around up-to-date information, in case they need emergency treatment.

Dr Merchant plans to continue developing and refining the layout and content of the book to ensure it is as useful for patients as it can be.
