Apologies to those of you who missed last week’s #weekinreview.
We can confirm that there was a week to review but #weekinreview was in Liverpool for the RCGP annual conference (#RCGPAC) where health secretary Andrew Lansley made a GP practice boundaries U-turn.
RCGP chairwoman Dr Clare Gerada (@clarercgp) has become a passionate advocate of Twitter so it was perhaps unfortunate that #meatfreefriday at lunchtime on day two of #RCGPAC caused quite such a stir.
Surrey GP Dr Pete Deveson (@PeteDeveson) tweeted:

No mention of meatfreefriday-gate by GP and National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) fellow Dr Greg Irving (@gregjirving) who was happy with the event in its entirety tweeting:

In other non-RCGP conference-related news, want to know what it’s like at the sharp end of a clinical commissioning group (CCG)?
He blogged: 'We need to build on the system, improve where we can and reduce the inefficiencies in care that we see all around us (including Primary Care). Quality and patients first, with faster more appropriate care are what matter to managers, clinicians and patients. We have to deliver.’
Here’s his conclusion: ‘But overall I think there is too much talk about whether GP commissioning is a good idea or not. What there is not enough focus on is the detail of how we are going to turn this idea into something that creates real value for the populations we serve.’
