CVD screening to be launched in Wales

People in Wales at high-risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD) will be targeted as part of a prevention scheme under development.

Public Health Wales NHS Trust will review existing systems for the prevention of CVD and develop a national plan to identify and manage those at risk of the disease.
The Welsh Assembly Government said the scheme would aim to reduce health inequalities by targeting those at greatest risk from the disease.
On Monday the Welsh Assembly Government published a review recommending that a national plan be developed to identify and manage those at risk of CVD.
Health minister Edwina Hart said that the review’s findings would ‘inform the development of services and initiatives to reduce the incidence, and number of deaths, associated with vascular disease’.
She added: ‘This complements work already underway to improve stroke and cardiac services and to raise awareness of the dangers of an unhealthy lifestyle and high blood pressure.’
