Homeopathy 'should not be funded on the NHS'

Homeopathy is not supported by enough evidence to justify being funded on the NHS, according to the LMCs conference.

Proposing a motion on the topic in London on Thursday, Dr Ian Rummens, of Shropshire LMC, said: ‘All large, well designed studies have shown that homeopathy is no more effective than placebo' There is no place in the NHS for alternative medicine of no proven value, he said.
Dr Joanne Watt, of Northamptonshire LMC, said that at this difficult time for the NHS, funding needed to be examined carefully. Misplaced faith in homeopathy meant people had delayed people seeking conventional care, she added.
Dr Brian Dunn, chairman of Northern Ireland GPC, said the BMA has called on NICE to assess complementary therapies.
