NICE considers QOF indicator on alcohol consumption
By Tom Moberly, 04 June 2010
The QOF may include an indicator on alcohol consumption from 2013/14, after NICE decided to undertake further development work in this area.
At its meeting on Thursday, NICE's QOF review committee decided that there was merit in alcohol consumption indicator. But it thought that more evidence was needed on who should be included in the target group for any indicator.
The committee has decided that, from 2012/13 QOF should include an indicator on statin use in patients who have hypertension and are at risk of cardiovascular disease.
It also recommended that an indicator be introducing in 2012/13 for a General Practice Physical Activity Questionnaire assessment for patients who have hypertension and are at risk of cardiovascular disease.
Pilots of these indicators on statin use and physical activity will begin in October.
Once the findings of the pilots have been reported, the NICE QOF committee will present recommendations on indicators for inclusion in the 2012/13 QOF. The GPC and NHS Employers will then negotiate on which of these will be included.
